Bush Legacy Republican Women to welcome Chuck Katlic, military moms

WEATHERFORD — WEATHERFORD — The speaker at the July meeting of Bush Legacy Republican Women will be Weatherford’s own, Chuck Katlic.

Katlic recently returned from an “Honor Flight” to Washington, D.C. These flights are given to veterans of World War II so they can see the monument to their service and to all their buddies who served in the “Great War.”

Katlic will discuss his trip and his experiences from his life. He was in the Battle of the Bulge, the deadly battle with the Germans, on Dec. 16, 1944, where America suffered 90,000 causalities, 19,000 were fatalities.

Katlic is passionate about the American Flag. He oversees the placing of flags on veteran’s graves on Memorial Day, Veterans’ Day and July 4. He recruits local Boy Scouts to help him distribute almost 1,000 flags.

He is chaplain for the American Legion Post 163 and active in the van program that transports veterans back and forth to the hospitals in Fort Worth and Dallas. He is also an active member of VFW Post No. 4746.

Katlic, a verifiable octogenarian, is also active in proper disposal of the flags.

Before coming to Weatherford, Katlic worked 38 years as a machinist in the shipyards in Maryland. Then he volunteered in National Parks and with the Sari Indians in Mexico.

Katlic will bring some young men with him to the program to post the colors and play “Taps.” Jessica Pelletier will entertain with a patriotic song.

Mothers of Parker County who have sons or daughters in harm’s way in Iraq or Afghanistan will be special guests at this luncheon. They will be recognized, and the son or daughter will be sent a special package to Iraq or Afghanistan.

This event will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 21, at the Doss Heritage Center. Visitors welcome.

The cost of the meal and meeting is $15.
