Local author wins prize for equine book

WEATHERFORD — WEATHERFORD — Weatherford author Stacy Pigott was honored by the American Horse Publications during their annual seminar and awards banquet on June 18 in San Diego. Pigott took first-place in the category “Equine-Related Book - Text or Pictoral” for “The Rider’s Guide to Real Collection,” co-authored with noted horsewoman Lynn Palm.

“The Rider’s Guide to Real Collection” was published in September 2010 by Trafalgar Square Books. It is the first book written by Pigott, who works full-time for TRACK Magazine in Morgan Mill as their editorial director.

Pigott also took second place in the “Magazine Feature Article” category for an article, “Burros And Babies,” which was originally published in the June 2010 issue of TRACK Magazine.

The AHP Annual Awards Contest provides members with an opportunity to be recognized for excellence in equine publishing, print and electronic, as well as professional critiques for improvement.

With depths reaching 260 feet underground, it is Texas’ largest-known cavern and consistently ranks as one of the state’s top tourist destinations. Discovered in 1960 by students at  St. Mary’s University, the cavern, located just west of New Braunfels, has delighted visitors for decades with lantern-led tours, archaeological gems, and natural formations like “soda straw” stalactites occurring along hidden passages.
