IRVING – Hannah’s House was started in 2001, to provide safe child exchange and court-ordered supervised visitation for children who otherwise might have no contact with one of their biological parents. “Our non-profit agency makes such contacts possible by providing trained supervisors to ensure safe visits in secure child-friendly surroundings,” said Dr. Larry Gilliam, executive director of Hannah’s House and Dayspring Counseling Center, based in Irving.
A Venture Grant from the Parker County United Way has allowed Gilliam and his staff to study the feasibility of opening a center in or near Weatherford. “The need has been established,” said Gilliam. “Local officials and attorneys have expressed their cooperation, and we have already begun to offer certain services to the residents of Parker County. We have established relationships with several of the existing community agencies and service providers, and we are now exploring the best way and the best place to serve the children and their families locally in this area.”
Some of the answers to these questions appear to be unfolding. Gilliam and Stephanie Gilliam, Hannah’s House Director of Development, recently accepted an invitation to visit and consider the facility of the Oak Ridge Church of Christ as a site for conducting supervised visitation, child exchanges, and classes, such as anger management, parenting, co-parenting, and basic life management. Ryan Maloney, Children & Family Minister, led them through the kid-friendly areas, which were secure, well-furnished, and easily accessible on East I-20, in Willow Park, near Weatherford. A mutual agreement was reached for Hannah’s House to begin offering services at that location.
Gilliam and his staff are available to meet with individuals or to speak at schools, churches, or community organizations. They will welcome opportunities to explain how they help children and families, to locate volunteers, and to identify people who are interested in training to become supervisors. Gilliam, who holds three doctors degrees in related fields of counseling, is also available to lead teachers, community service volunteers, or mental health professionals in continuing education experiences or in-service training. The contact number for Hannah’s House and Dayspring Counseling is (817) 899-8244.

Texas, underground
The Natural Bridge Caverns take “deep in the heart of Texas Hill Country” to a whole new meaning. With depths reaching 260 feet underground, it is Texas’ largest-known cavern and consistently ranks as one of the state’s top tourist destinations. Discovered in 1960 by students at St. Mary’s University, the cavern, located just west of New Braunfels, has delighted visitors for decades with lantern-led tours, archaeological gems, and natural formations like “soda straw” stalactites occurring along hidden passages.
