WHS calculus team places in 10th Annual WC Coyote Area Math Championship

Weatherford High School continued its tradition of finishing in one of the top three team places at the 10th Annual Weatherford College Coyote Area Math Championship.

This is the sixth year in a row WISD has placed in the top three in a team event.

The WHS Calculus Team of Carly Good, Haydent Nugent, Kevin Wiggs and Kyle Wiggs won third place. Students could compete individually or in teams, or both, in both the Pre-Cal division or Calculus division.

The Pre-Cal team consisted of Rema Abdeljalil, Brendan Austria, Draven Pointer, and Austin Wiedebusch. Austria placed seventh in the individual portion of the contest.

In addition to the calculus team listed above, former calculus students Bailey Hulsey and Rebecca Harlow competed individually. Hulsey won first place (for the second straight year) and Rebecca Harlow came in seventh.

The final team finishes were:

1st: Brewer

2nd: Poolville

3rd: Mineral Wells

Calculus

1st: Stephenville

2nd: Mineral Wells

3rd: Weatherford High School

    Libby Wiley, art teacher at Mineral Wells High School and member of Iota Chi, the Weatherford chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, received a $270 award from her chapter to facilitate her attending the National Art Educators Association Convention in Fort Worth March 8-11.
