‘Mary Martin’ on stage Saturday

WEATHERFORD — The Doss Heritage and Culture Center is proud to present Jan Prokop in her refreshing portrayal of the life and career of beloved Broadway icon Mary Martin in a dinner theatre musical. With the success of the current Broadway revival of South Pacific, Nellie Forbush is once again the talk of the town. And while most folks can tell you it was Mary Martin who brought the original Nellie to life, there’s so much folks don’t know about the legendary actress who also made Peter Pan take flight, beguiled Cole Porter and famously turned down the original productions of “Oklahoma,” “Mame” and “Kiss Me, Kate.”

Jan Prokop and Frank Ponzio celebrate one of the most beloved and influential ladies of the American Musical Theater. Watch Mary Martin mature from naïve Texas hopeful to powerhouse Hollywood headliner; follow her to Broadway where she turned an unexpected debut into a triumphant career that earned her four Tony Awards and international fame. It’s a blockbuster show arranged and delivered with wit, heart and style.

As sassy songstress Mary Martin, Prokop will charm the audience, make them laugh and bring them to tears. This unbelievably true one-woman show has garnered rave reviews at the Touhill Center for the Performing Arts in St. Louis and at theaters in Manhattan and throughout the New York metropolitan area.

Join Jan and Frank as they take you on a whirlwind tour of this wonderful performer’s life in “I GOTTA CROW”! at the Doss Heritage and Culture Center for one night only on Feb. 14 at 6 p.m.

Reservations are required with limited seating. Reservations available $50 per person includes blockbuster show and dinner. The DHCC is located at 1400 Texas Drive, Weatherford. Phone (817) 599-6187. Visit the web site at www.dosscenter.org.

The Air Force Academy recently graduated their first openly gay cadets. What does this signify?

Nothing. There have always been gay cadets, they just haven't been open.
A step backward. Sexual orientation issues shouldn't be a part of the military.
A step forward. The military needs to be open to people of all backgrounds.
No opinion.
