Lockheed Martin Model Railroad Activity to host 27th annual Model Railroad Show

FORT WORTH — The LMRA railroad clubs 27th annual Model Train Show will be held the Oct. 10-11. The train show will turn gyms 1, 2 and 3 of the LMRA Sports Fitness Center into a mecca of model railroading activity.

Admission is $7 per person with children under 10 admitted free.

There will be 200 dealer tables at this year’s show. Local area modular clubs displaying at this year’s show are the Texas Outlaws, an HON3 club from the Metroplex, Trinity N-Trak club of Fort Worth and the Tex-N Modular club from Dallas. In addition, the award winning modular club from Shreveport, La. the Ark LaTex Modular RR Club, will be attending the show. This club makes many appearances during the year at train shows, hospitals and malls through East Texas and Louisiana.

There are many award winning modules on the layout. Children will delight in seeing the Thomas the Tank miniature trains running on the modules. There will also be a Thomas the Tank play area for children. They will be able to build layouts and run battery powered Thomas the Tank engines and watch Thomas Videos.

Again, this year members of the Circus Model Builders local D.R. Miller Ring No. 122 and Lot No. 8 members will participate in the show. These two organizations will be displaying circus trains, miniature circuses and carnivals and other types of circus memorabilia.

Many of the circus and carnival models are built from kits, while others are scratch built. On the other hand, many of the modelers are real artist that have hand carved many of their intricate pieces. For many, it is an ongoing hobby which they have been doing for many years. They build their circus models in various scales from Z gauge to full size wagons. Some displays are from the days when the circus traveled by rail (circus train) and others are when they traveled by truck (truck shows).

For additional information on the Circus Model Builders, visit the Web site as www.circusmodlebuilders.com.

In addition to the traveling modular clubs and the circus and carnival displays, the fabulous LMRA club’s permanent layout will be open both days of the show. You will want to visit the club room located in the clubhouse building and see all the changes that have been made to the layout since last year’s show.

The city of St. Charles has been completely rebuilt. The Mountain States Refinery has been improved with a lot of detail. In addition, the Red Mesa Mountain area is just about finished. Track Signals, street lights and many other new details have been added to other areas of the layout. Come to the show and see the many changes that have been made since last year.

While at the show, visit one of the many dealers and buy a train set for you or your children. The show dealers will have many railroad items to sell, such as trains, videos, prints, memorabilia and RR books.

In addition to the train show this year, several of the LMRA activities will be sponsoring Pottery in the Park in the picnic area. On display and sale will be items made by the stained glass, rock hounds, ceramics, pottery, camera clubs, etc. After you visit the train show stop at the Pottery in the Park.

Bring the whole family and spend the day at LMRA. If you would like more information on the Model Railroad Show, contact Bob Bray at (817) 713-6887 or LMRA at (817) 732-7731 or e-mail brayrLia@sbcglobal.net.
