SAN ANTONIO — Cade Hansma and Alannah Chalmers of Weatherford, and Jens Rudibaugh of Poolville, were the recipients of scholarships from the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo at this year’s horse and llama shows.
Cade Hansma, of Weatherford, was the winner of the $10,000 scholarship from the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo at this year’s Horse Show, awarded for her high overall point total of 447 from two rides. Cade was very excited about her win on her horse, Reytheon, and commented it really meant a lot to her because it was her first big win on “Rey.” Cade is 13 years old and in the seventh grade. She said Rey is a great horse and that her favorite thing about him is “his hillbilly tooth that always sticks out.” Cade wanted to say thank you to her family for all of their help and support.
Thanks to her total score of 444.5 points from her two Youth rides, Alannah Chalmers, of Weatherford, was the recipient of the $8,000 scholarship from the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo at this year’s Horse Show. She is 18 years old and attends Weatherford College. Chalmers rode Wood Ya Wanna for the win. She earned her spot in the NCHA Finals at the Summer Spectacular show several times. She wished to say thanks to her family, Paul and Julie Hansma, as well as Micha and RL Chartier. Lastly, Chalmers also wanted to thank Julie Wrigley for allowing her to ride Wood Ya Wanna in this event.
Jens Rudibaugh, of Poolville, was the recipient of the $10,000 scholarship from the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo at this year’s Llama Show, with his llama, “Arti.” He is 17 years old and is currently a Senior in high school. When he isn’t showing his llamas he enjoys riding horses. Arti and Rudibaugh are no stranger to the winners circle; in fact, they won second at the Alpaca Llama Show Association Nationals, as well as finished third for Grand and Reserve Champion. When asked how he felt about receiving the scholarship, all Rudibaugh could say was “GREAT!” Rudibaugh wanted to send out a very special thank you to his trainer for everything she has done for him. He also wanted to thank the Alpaca and Llama Show Association.

Cattle Raisers host ranch gathering in Decatur
FORT WORTH — Come join the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) for a ranch gathering Thursday, at the Wise County Sheriff’s Posse Arena in Decatur. The gathering will begin at 6 p.m. with registration followed by a beef dinner and presentations.

Planned grazing course with Kirk Gadzia this April in Fort Worth
FORT WORTH — Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers and Holistic Management Texas team up to offer a new “Planned Grazing” course at the Will Rogers Memorial Center April 21-25.
The emphasis for this five-day course will be on grazing planning, but instructor Kirk Gadzia will cover rangeland monitoring, financial planning and land planning as well. The content will be relevant to both managerial and operational level employees, with varying levels of formal education. There will be a lands-on Learning aspect if weather permits. Class runs from 8am to 4:15pm each day. -
One more for the tourists
Moira and Clive, British tourists, had taken in the Arkansas attractions of Eureka Springs, the Chuck Wagon races in Clinton, the sale barn in Green Forest, and now found themselves in Fort Smith for the Arkansas Cattlemen’s Association Trail Drive.

SAN ANTONIO — The Junior Market AOB Steer Show was held Feb. 19, at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.
Taylor Cody won the honor of Breed Champion AOB with her 1334 pound steer. -
