Weatherford Mayor Dennis Hooks has announced his intention to run for re-election in the May municipal election.

Hooks was appointed to replace Joe Tison in ealry 2008 when Tison ran for the state Legislature.

Hooks was then elected to a full term in May.

“I decided to run for election as mayor so that I could continue to be a part of a team that was headed in the right direction, a team that was addressing challenges head-on for the sake of the entire community,” Hooks said in his Friday announcement. “There is still more work to be done and I am committed to seeing it through.”

Friday was the first day for candidates to file for the May 8 election.

Hooks, who owns a Hudson Oaks car dealership, is on his second stint at City Hall.

He served on the city council from 1992 to 1998, losing his first mayoral bid to Tom McLaughlin in ‘98. He defeated McLaghlin for the job a decade later.

“I love the city of Weatherford,” Hooks said, “and I beleive that the best way to build on our recent successes and to make this an even greater city for all our residents and visitors is to keep our team moving full steam ahead.”

The last day to file for the city election is March 8. Early voting begins April 26.
