Where’s the beef?
Dear editor,
This week marks the advent of Spring, bringing sunshine, flowers and the Great American Meatout! Yes, The Great American Meatout. Fashioned after The Great American Smokeout, Meatout is a fanstastic excuse to “kick the meat habit” and begin Spring with a fresh, compassionate start.
Indeed, Meatout provides all of us an opportunity to examine the impacts of our diet on the health and well-being of our family, our planet, and the billions of animals who needlessly suffer in factory farms and slaughterhouses. I'm celebrating by distributing free Veg Starter Kits and I want your readers to know they can request a FREE Veg Starter Kit (with delicious recipes and advice) by visiting www.meatout.org or calling (800) MEATOUT.

Out of control
Dear editor,
Once again, this corrupt, crony-run, oil and big business subsidized administration ignores the will of the American People, that they ARE EMPLOYED BY, and want again to shove drilling in one of ouf remaining pristine forests.
ENOUGH!!!!!!!
LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE WHO PAY YOUR SALARIES!!!
Why does this corrupt administration continue to try to sneak through the very things the American People don’t want like drilling in the ANWR and Social Security Private accounts? Censure and impeach, this bunch of theives and liars is out of control.

Supporting our troops?
Dear editor;
Congresswoman Kay Granger champions herself as a big proponent of our military veterans, and all the “support our troops” cry.
Has Kay Granger ever sponsored or cosponsored a single piece of legislation to resolve the POW/MIA issue? What more meaningful “veterans” issue could there possibly be?
U.S. Congressman Ron Paul of Lake Jackson, Texas, has introduced H Res 123 to establish a select subcomittee to fully open all government files on this nations shameful betrayal of men, many, many still credibly believed to still be alive.
Granger refuses to be among the co-sponsors to bring this out of committee.
“Veterans” issues, Ms Granger? Indeed ...

Many thanks
Dear editor,
I wish to express appreciation to my friends and supporters for their efforts during my recent bid for the office of Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4. Although I was not successful in the political race I did have an opportunity to meet and come to know and respect many good and kind people in eastern Parker County. I also wish to thank Judge Melvin Simons and Mr. Wright for the gentlemanly manner in which they conducted their campaigns and for the respect they showed me. I believe voters everywhere are not interested in what candidates say about each other but would like very much to hear the truths a candidate might say about themselves.
I ask the good people who supported me to offer their assistance and their vote to Judge Simons at the runoff election in April. He is a trusted magistrate and a Christian gentleman whom I believe will continue to offer his best efforts to all citizens of Parker County.

2006 primary election
Dear editor,
I would like to thank everyone for voting during this 2006 primary.
Wow what a close race for all candidates.
Thank you for re-electing our Republican Chairwoman Zan Statham. She has always done a fantastic job. Zan always encourages Parker County residents to attend our Republican meetings held on the 1st Thursday at the Weatherford College.
Thank you for electing Jerry Buckner Judge at County Court at Law, we really needed a change, he will “pledge to be hard-working, fair and impartial and to insure all citizens their day in court.”
Thank you for re-electing Jim Thorp. He needed to win this race, and he did.
Congratulations Zan, Jerry, Jim and all newly elected Parker County Precinct Chairs.
What a great 2006 the Republicans have to look forward to. I am anxious to meet each and every one of you. Please join me and many Republicans at the Parker County Republican meeting on April 6. If you would like more information go to Parkertxgop.org.

Who controls you?
Dear editor,
Recent campaigns have brought back a personal hurt that 10 years and work cannot erase.
Twenty years ago, I worked at Campbell Hospital as a nursing supervisor. I was also taking care of my brother-in-law with terminal cancer. In an effort to administer more humane care, his doctor agreed administering pain medication via IV was better than frequent needle injections. The doctor said to see if the ER would supply the needed items. The cost was less than $10. I suggested the administrator be notified for approval or submit the charges to the insurance company. I was assured there was no problem. Sadly, my brother-in-law died three days later peacefully and pain free. I unfortunately, was fired six days later for theft of the supplies.
The administrator, employed by Quorum, could not spend money fast enough. He had the best furnishings, high salary and hand-picked board members he could “get voted in.” He was like a kid in a candy store. Except for a supervisor, Sue Virdell, who did not agree with his politics, therefore, he finally found a way to label me as a thief and get rid of me.
I read the paper, the horrible things being stated, I have to ask is a job worth a friend? Are we so shallow that we say horrible things to gain a position “of stature.”
I will never vote for hospital expansion. I am not “good enough” to work there, but I am “too good to pay for it.”
Run your campaigns, promote your local growth, but be honest and up front.
Always dance as if no one is watching, sing as if no one is listening, live as if everyday was your last. Never forget “he who angers you controls you.”
Sue Virdell,

Talking and driving dangerous, even hands-free
Dear editor,
After reading the Sept. 18 editorial, “Speed limit goes up; safety goes down” by Margarita Venegas, I am afraid I must take exception to one of her comments. I will not enter into the argument concerning the safety of raising the speed limit to 85 mph, however, the comment quoted below concerns me a great deal because it is shared by many others including a few state legislators. -
Thanks for administering flu shot clinics
Dear editor,
Weatherford ISD would like to thank its community partner, the Parker County Hospital District, for administering shot clinics throughout the district. -

New jobs bill just old trick
Dear editor,
This new jobs bill or what is now commonly known as the “son of stimulus” is nothing but a repackaged version of the first waste of money! - More Letters to the Editor Headlines
