The Parker County Commissioners Court agreed Monday the county’s policy of requesting bids for all goods and services valued at more than $15,000 is getting too cumbersome.
Commissioners also voted to assign old county cell phones to citizens aided by the victim’s assistance division of the Parker County Attorney’s Office.
And Parker County Extension Agent Jon Greene presented his annual report on the Master Gardeners, indicating a significant increase in membership and activity.
Precinct 1 Commissioner Danny Choate said he decided to support increasing the bid-limit from $15,000 to $25,000 after consulting with County Purchasing Agent Deena Nichols.
“I put this on the agenda because prices are constantly going up,” Choate explained.
Parker County Judge Mark Riley noted the bid limit was $5,000 roughly 20 years ago.
Nichols said state agencies have been operating at the $25,000 bid limit for years, and municipalities are free to contract without requesting bids up to $50,000.
“There is some talk at the state level about raising counties to the $50,000 level during the next legislative session,” Nichols added.
Riley said the $15,000 limit remained in place, “because, quite frankly, we had a department that was out buying automobiles we didn’t know about.”
