An accident on Ranger Highway left a Midland woman dead and her husband severely injured Sunday afternoon.

According to a preliminary report from the Texas Department of Public Safety, an SUV with two females was traveling west on Ranger Highway around 4 p.m. when it collided with the couple in a Chevrolet Malibu.

Trooper Stephen Nall said the couple was traveling east on the shoulder of the road and attempted to make a left turn.

“The driver of the Malibu made a U-turn from the eastbound shoulder of the road, into the westbound lane and was struck by the Outlander causing severe damage to the passenger side of the vehicle,” Nall said.

The deceased woman was identified as Anita Crumpton, 69. Her husband, identified as Larry Crumpton, was listed as being in critical condition Sunday evening.

He was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth by Air Evac Medical for unknown injuries.

The driver of the SUV and her passenger reported minor injuries and were shaken, but refused medical treatment on scene. They were taken by personal vehicles to Weatherford Regional Medical Center. They were treated and later released Sunday.

Nall said according to the Crumpton’s son, the couple was on the shoulder looking for an RV camp site.

Anita Crumpton was taken to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Air Force Academy recently graduated their first openly gay cadets. What does this signify?

Nothing. There have always been gay cadets, they just haven't been open.
A step backward. Sexual orientation issues shouldn't be a part of the military.
A step forward. The military needs to be open to people of all backgrounds.
No opinion.
