Weatherford Regional Medical Center (WRMC) is getting a facelift.
In a recent presentation to the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce, WRMC CEO Donnie Romine explained what he called the “four-pronged strategy” of the hospital’s expansion.
First, Romine wants to develop internal excellence including quality, customer satisfaction and communication.
Romine also wants to develop growth opportunities through recruiting physicians, enhancing the current product line and developing a new product line.
“I think it’s important that we get the word out that we have a very high level of technology here,” Romine said in a previous Democrat article.
WRMC’s third goal is to support the community through sponsorships and community participation.
Finally, WRMC plans to develop quality facilities through construction, renovation and cleanliness.
This fourth prong was the main focus of Romine’s presentation to the Chamber of Commerce, as he discussed upcoming plans for Weatherford Regional’s expansion.
Plans call for the hospital to grow by 23 percent, about 43,000 square feet larger than it is now.
In addition to the new construction, there will also be major or cosmetic renovations throughout the hospital.
The hospital isn’t just growing in size. The expansion will allow it to care for more patients in a more comfortable atmosphere.
“We are excited about the opportunity to provide $27 million in capital improvements to our hospital that will improve patient care for our community,” said Cory Countryman, the assistant CEO of WRMC.
The emergency department will more than double its capacity, from 11 to 23 beds. The department will also triple in size and have separate walk-in and ambulance entrances.
The Intensive Care Unit will gain four more beds and will also triple in size.
Other departments will be relocated to create a better work flow.
The laboratory and pharmacy will be closer to the emergency department for more efficient service.
The radiology department will also be moved closer to the emergency department and will be consolidated from four separate areas to one.
“We told architects we want the pharmacy, lab and radiology right next to the ER, where you don’t have to walk or roll very far to get to it,” Romine said.
All three departments will also expand.
All pre-operation testing will be done in the expanded pre-admit testing department, and the department will include a pre-op teaching area.
The community is invited to the July 1 groundbreaking ceremony beginning at 11:30 a.m. According to a previous Democrat article, Community Health Systems plans for all capital improvements for WRMC to completed by Novemb

Like any other mother, Donna Robinson has pictures of her “babies” on her phone.
“Let me show you,” she said eagerly. “I’ve got lots of pictures of the kids.”
She scrolls through the photos — there’s one of a squirrel with milk on its mouth after a feeding. Oh, there’s a cute one of two tiny possums looking over her shoulder as she feeds another “baby.” Aww, there’s the group of four raccoons named after the Beatles: Ringo, Paul, George and John.
Ok. She’s not your “ordinary” mom. -
Water woes on floodplain in Weatherford
When Wendy Walling purchased her home in the Briarwood subdivision off of Sante Fe Drive in the mid-1990s, her son could easily jump from one side of the small creek behind the home to the other.
“My son was in fourth grade (when we moved in) and he could actually jump across the creek,” Walling said.
By 2007, however, Walling said the width of the creek had begun to expand.
“(The creek) can hold water now and before it never could,” Walling said. - DPS: Motorcyclists didn't see slowing truck
