Three suspects remain jailed after a routine traffic stop by Parker County Sheriff’s deputies led to the discovery of 84 grams of suspected drugs.
According to Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler, the trio was detained by Sheriff’s Sgt. Mark Fletcher on the Interstate 20 service road near Hudson Oaks.
Fletcher made the stop after noticing the vehicle’s license plate lamp was burned out, around 9 p.m. Wednesday.
An arrest affidavit filed by Fletcher stated the driver, identified as Rex Carl Williams, 34, of Benbrook, was unable to present valid proof of insurance and the passengers were unable to present valid identification.
A routine database check of Williams and the passenger, Erik Delgado Cortez, 28, also known as Erik Anthony Rodriquez, of Hereford, revealed both men had extensive criminal histories. With that, Fletcher conducted a search of the individuals and vehicle for his own safety.
During the search, Fletcher recovered a syringe from Williams and saw track marks on his arm commonly associated with the use of narcotics. Sheriff’s sources said the syringe contained a trace amount of suspected meth.
Also during the search, Fletcher found a loaded .380 semi-automatic handgun and a separate loaded magazine in the vehicle’s console along with an ASP Baton on the floorboard and a nylon case containing a small amount of suspected methamphetamine.
When Fletcher placed all three suspects under arrest, the female passenger, Elisa Laurel Gandarilla, 48, also known as Elisa Gamez DeLaRosa, of River Oaks, “surrendered” a brown paper bag hidden in her clothing which contained another 84 grams of suspected meth.
All three suspects were taken to the Parker County Justice Center where they were booked in.
Williams was charged with manufacturing/deliver a controlled substance under 200 grams and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. His bail was set at $50,000.
Gandarilla/DeLaRosa was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance under 200 grams. Her bail was set at $30,000.
Cortez/Rodriquez was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance under 200 grams, possession of a firearm by felon and warrants for failure to stop and render aid, forgery and a parole violation. His bail was set at $68,000, but his bail was denied on his parole violation.

Sheriff, judge at odds over mailer
Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler sent out a statement and automatic phone calls across the county Wednesday saying he did not endorse incumbent 43rd District Judge candidate Trey Loftin, following a mailer sent by the judge’s campaign that included a quote from Fowler.
However, Loftin said Thursday Fowler made the referenced statement to a room full of people at a fundraiser for Loftin and agreed to let Loftin’s campaign quote the sheriff. - Film director looking for local actors
