'Dreams with Wings' registration opens

WEATHERFORD — “DREAMS ON WINGS” CALL FOR SPONSORS

2nd Annual 5K benefiting The Hemispherectomy Foundation

ALEDO – Registration is now open for “Dreams on Wings”, a 5K and 1 mile fun run that will take place on Saturday, May 15 in Weatherford.  The event will benefit The Hemispherectomy Foundation and honors Parker County’s Jessie Hall, a second grader who underwent radical surgery in which one half of her brain was removed.

The first organization of its kind in the world, The Hemispherectomy Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing emotional, financial and educational support for individuals and their families who have undergone or will undergo a hemispherectomy, or similar brain surgery.

“The 2009 Dreams on Wings 5K was a great success! The Foundation was able to raise more than $7,000 for the children that we support. This year our goal is to double that amount,” said Kristi Hall, race chairwoman and president/ CEO of The Hemispherectomy Foundation.

Proceeds from last year's event provided financial aid to 13 families, four college scholarships, two camp scholarships, postage for hospital care packages and more.

Current sponsors include Parker County Physical Therapy, Luke’s Locker, RunFar Racing Services and McDonalds.  Sponsorship opportunities are available at the $50, $250, $500, $750 and $1,000 levels.

Deadline for sponsorship is April 30.  Please contact Kristi Hall at kristi@hemifoundation.org for more information.

Race participants can register online or download registration forms at www.hemifoundation.org.  Cost is $25 for ages 12+, $20 for ages 6-12 and $20 per individual for teams of three or more.  Registration forms and checks, made out to The Hemispherectomy Angels, Inc., can be mailed to The Hemispherectomy Foundation, P.O. Box 1239, Aledo, TX  76008.

The Air Force Academy recently graduated their first openly gay cadets. What does this signify?

Nothing. There have always been gay cadets, they just haven't been open.
A step backward. Sexual orientation issues shouldn't be a part of the military.
A step forward. The military needs to be open to people of all backgrounds.
No opinion.
