Man gets probation in screwdriver stabbing

By CHRISTIN COYNE

A man who stabbed another man in the neck with a screwdriver during a March 2012 altercation received 10 years deferred adjudication probation after pleading guilty Monday.

Edward Leslie Buckle, 31, of Weatherford, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he stabbed 40-year-old James Allan Doggett around 1 a.m. March 15.

A woman called Doggett to the residence after she became involved in an altercation with Buckle at her residence in the 300 block of South Alamo, according to police and the district attorney’s office.

Doggett reportedly told police that Buckle came at him and the men began fighting, during which Buckle stabbed Doggett.

Doggett was transported by helicopter to a Fort Worth hospital, and Buckle was arrested while walking down South Main Street, according to police at the time.

Doggett, who was sentenced to prison last week on an unrelated drug charge, recovered from his injury, according to Assistant District Attorney Robert DuBoise.
