SAN ANTONIO – The 2013 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo’s Cutting Horse Show featured a Mercuria National Cutting Horse Association World Series of Cutting for the fourth consecutive year, showcasing some of the world’s top cutting horses.
With a total of 402 entries, this show is one of the biggest equine events the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo hosts each year. Held in the Expo Hall, cutters tried for their share of $67,000 in added prize money.
Texas youth also competed for a total of $28,000 in scholarships. These scholarships were awarded to the top three average scores out of the two senior youth classes combined. The scholarships were presented Feb. 10th to Shannon McCoy, of Weatherford; Hannah Bass, of Seymour; and Kyle Farris, of Midway.
With a total combined score of 451 from both rides, Shannon McCoy rode “Pepcorn” to a $10,000 scholarship for first place. McCoy wanted to give a special thanks to her family. She is a freshman at Weatherford College.
In 2012, the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo committed $10.1 million to education. This amount represents scholarships, grants, endowments, junior livestock and western art auctions, a Calf Scramble program, and show premiums paid to youth in the state of Texas. This brings the total amount that the organization has committed since inception to over $123 million.
The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo is “a volunteer organization that emphasizes agriculture and education to develop the youth of Texas.”
