Greenwood Trials end Sunday

WEATHERFORD — One of Parker County’s most notable equine events concludes this weekend.

The annual Greenwood Horse Trials, which began Friday, wraps up today, with cross-country jumping and show jumping, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

On Friday, contestants from around the country began competing in dressage.

Christian Eagles, an instructor and competitor, and Kristi Radosevich made a two-day journey earlier this week from Wyoming to compete at Greenwood.

“It was about 920 miles, and we covered it in two days,” Eagles said. “Eventing creates an amazing community and everyone is just so supportive.”

Eagles and her husband both participate in competitions, and have 18 horses at their Wyoming home.

Eagles and Radosevich, who have competed in events all over the country, said the facilities, and the difficulty levels, at Greenwood drew the two to Weatherford with their 13-year-old horse, Run To The Border.

“We wanted to come down because we wanted to compete at the intermediate level,” Eagles said, referring to the stage one and a half levels below the Olympic standard.

For some, it was a first step on the big stage.

Audrey Green, 13, with her horse Bridgette, and Molly Scher, 10, with her horse, Jester Best Friend, were both competing in their first recognized event.

“It really draws a lot of people out here,” Mary Hirsch, a rider and one of the organizers of the event, said. “Texas is beginning to make a name for itself in the horse trial events.”

For those wishing to catch the end of the trials, admission is free for the event. Entrance to Greenwood Farms is at 2100 Greenwood Road, west of Ranger Highway.

Parking and leads to the show jumping and dressage are available, and courtesy golf-cart shuttles will be provided. For more spectator information, call 817-599-8159.
