PARKER COUNTY —
A number of groups and facilities are opening their doors to enable youngsters (and those young at heart) to have a safe Halloween experience this evening.
One is at Weatherford College from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Originally scheduled to be at the college’s baseball field, the event has been moved to the parking lot behind Couts Hall on campus. Not only will there be plenty of treats on hand for the kids, children will also be able to take part in a bounce house, game booths, face painting and costume contests. The event, which reportedly had more than 1,000 kids last year, is sponsored by the college’s police department.
For those who don’t mind a bit of a drive, Clark Gardens is having a “Bootanical — Gone to the Dawgs festival” from 5 to 8 p.m. at its facility at 567 Maddux Road. Admission is nonperishable food items for pets or humans or a cash donation. In keeping with the pet spirit, there will be costume contests for both pets and their humans. The human costume contest starts at 6 p.m. with winners in several different age divisions. The pet costume contest starts at 7 p.m.
Games and music will take place under the big tent; an old fashioned cupcake walk will also take place. Humans will have a chance to learn more about nocturnal animals as a walk through the “ghoulish garden” is planned.
Some area churches will be having “Trunk or Treat” events.
• New River Fellowship in Hudson Oaks is having such an event from 6 to 8 p.m. in the back parking lot of the church at 3252 I-20, along with games, bounce houses and more for all ages. For those who want a little food with all the free candy being handed out, a concession stand will be available.
• Also out in the county, a "Trunk or Treat" and Fall Festival is set for Lakeshore Drive Baptist Church, 200 S. Lakeshore Dr. in Hudson Oaks. The event will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. rain or shine. The event is free and will include prizes, inflatables, games and food.
• First Baptist Church in Weatherford is having their 34th Annual Fall Festival event from 5 to 8 p.m. at the church, 306 Palo Pinto. The fellowship hall will have a room of games for children 6 and under. Admission is $1 and is payable at the door. A concession stand will have food and drink items for sale. There will also be door prizes donated by Weatherford businesses for the adults who may want something more than candy.
• Also having a Fall Festival style event is Grace Community Fellowship, 111 West Ranch Lane in Weatherford. Community members are invited to join the church family for an evening of fun, food, games, trunk or treat and more. The event run from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
• Central Christian Church will have Halloween activities at their Trunk or Treat from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the church, 1602 S. Main St. in Weatherford. The public is welcome, and encouraged to bring a canned food donation.
