Purchasing Department gets recognized for excellence

WEATHERFORD —

For the third straight year, Parker County’s purchasing department has been recognized for organizational excellence in procurement by the National Procurement Institute, earning the 17th Annual Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award for 2012.

The county is one of 41 counties in the United States to achieve the AEP award, according to the NPI, and one of 38 government agencies in Texas.

“We appreciate the work you do on behalf of the taxpayers,” County Judge Mark Riley told county purchasing agent Deena Nichols.

Nichols told the court that her department will probably receive the trophy for the award in November.

Good organization, understanding the statutes and having dedicated staff members were all key to being recognized, she said.

Each of her four staff members prepared a portion of the online application, she said, an “involved” process which required a considerable team effort.

They were able to do so while fulfilling their regular job responsibilities, she said, and despite losing a staff member last year to county budget cuts.

“It’s rewarding to know our hard work is being recognized on behalf of Parker County and the taxpayers,” she said.

Public and non-profit organizations earn the AEP award based on the innovation, professionalism, e-procurement, productivity and leadership attributes of the procurement function, according to the award notification letter from NPI.
