Feb. 13 ribbon cutting to mark opening of new section of Ric Williamson Memorial Highway

Parker County residents will soon have access from FM 51, north of Weatherford, to U.S. Highway 180 west of Weatherford on the Ric Williamson Memorial Highway, a project of the Parker County Transportation Bond Program.

A ribbon cutting on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 1:30 p.m. on the RWMH just north of the U.S. 180 intersection will celebrate the opening of Phase 2 of the project, which is from FM 920 to U.S. 180 and the Texas Department of Transportation’s completion of the U.S. 180 intersection.

Phase 1 from FM 51 to FM 920 opened in January 2012.

“It will be a tremendous achievement and something we can all be proud of,” Parker County Judge Mark Riley said. “Through partnerships we have been able to achieve our goals and we continue to complete the projects of our bond program in a timely manner and under budget.”

Riley said his greatest thanks go to the residents of Parker County who supported the 2008 Transportation Bond Program by passing it with approximately 60 percent of the vote in the November 2008 general election.

“I know road construction can be tough to deal with and trying on our patience, but the people of Parker County have handled it well,” Riley said. “I believe our community is able to see the big picture and the improvements in mobility, amongst other things, these new roads will bring.”

When completed in 2014, the Ric Williamson Memorial Highway will connect to FM 51 and Interstate 20, just west of Weatherford.

Parker County’s Transportation Bond Program has brought needed infrastructure improvements to the county, facilitating safer mobility, cleaner air and economic development opportunities to one of the state’s fastest growing counties, according to Riley.
