Garner, Poolville cancel board elections due to lack of opposition

PARKER COUNTY — Three school districts in Parker County were slated for school board elections in November, but two have pulled the elections off of the ballot due to lack of filings.

Both Garner ISD and Poolville ISD are in the process of canceling their elections, in response to no new candidates signing up to run.

Garner has three positions open currently, occupied by trustees James Caywood, Diane Shaw and Josh Nelms. Caywood was appointed to the position earlier in the year to replace another member, and will be reelected for the expired term.

Poolville ISD has four places up for reelection with no newcomers filing.

Incumbents who will be reelected include Debbye Barnett in Place 4, Kevin Williams in Place 5, Randy Harris in Place 6 and Jimmy Hines in Place 7.

The cutoff for Brock ISD’s filings ended Aug. 20, with four positions open — Place 1, Place 2, Place 5 and Place 7.

Marty Ivey, who serves in Place 1, is running unopposed. Incumbents have also filed to run in two of the other three slots.

Earl McGee, who serves in Place 2, will be up against Danielle Felts.

Place 5 is currently held by Kent Hull, who will not be running again. Three opponents have filed to occupy the position — Charles Luke, Jay Brainard and Travis Faulkner.

Place 7 was held by James Branch, but after his resignation, Cody Lane was appointed to fill the unexpired term. Lane will be running against opponent Lewana Phillips.
