Parker County Sheriff’s investigators are seeking the public’s help in identifying and locating suspects who broke into a local church and vandalized it.
The incident happened at Central Baptist Church in north Weatherford in the 4200 block of Old Agnes Road, sometime between Monday and Wednesday. A report was made by a janitor at the church after he came to work Wednesday morning. The complainant told deputies he observed several doors and property within the church had been damaged.
The report states an exterior door and an interior door to the sanctuary were damaged in the incident. A hole was punched in the interior door, causing an estimated several hundred dollars in damage repair costs. An additional outbuilding door had also been damaged.
A game system and multiple games valued at several hundred additional dollars were also reported stolen during the crime.
Sheriff Larry Fowler said it is upsetting how a person could knowingly and intentionally destroy church property.
“This is very disturbing,” Fowler said. “A church is holy territory and should be revered and respected, not purposely ruined. Our investigators are following up on leads in order to apprehend the heartless criminals responsible for this crime, and we intend on seeking the proper penalties and punishments.”
The charges are listed as theft for the stolen game system and criminal mischief for vandalism of a place of worship, a state jail felony.
