Burning wire leads deputies to burglary, theft suspect

SPRINGTOWN – Parker County sheriff’s officials say deputies arrested a Springtown man Monday night in connection with a burglary at a Springtown business.

Sheriff Larry Fowler said deputies responded to the call just before 10 p.m. in the 1200 block of East Highway 199. Deputies reportedly observed damage to the doors of the building. No one was found inside, the officers said.

A van was missing from the business and was later located on East State Highway 199. Numerous tools and equipment were stolen from the van, which had been “stripped,” according to PCSO press release.

Deputies conducted an initial investigation of the premises where the van was recovered, stating they discovered fire and smoke coming from a warehouse. Deputies found a man there, identified as Danny Wayne Turner, 51, of Springtown, who reported the fire was caused by burning wire.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and ventilated the smoke from the building. Deputies allegedly discovered the stolen items located inside the warehouse.

Turner implicated himself to deputies in the business burglary and theft of the van. Turner also stated he was attempting to burn insulation off the stolen wire.

Turner was arrested and charged with burglary of a building and telecommunication service theft.

He remained in Parker County Jail on Tuesday with no bond set.
