Man indicted in officer dragging

By CHRISTIN COYNE

Cody Scott Sherwood, 22, was indicted by a Parker County grand jury Thursday on a charge of evading arrest with a vehicle involving a Jan. 26 dragging of a Springtown police officer.

He was indicted last month on a charge of aggravated assault of a peace officer with a deadly weapon, as well.

Officer Brad Sauls was dispatched to the 600 block of East 6th Street regarding a domestic disturbance between Sherwood and his father, Springtown police reported.

When Sauls arrived, Sherwood was found in a vehicle trying to leave, according to Springtown Police Lt. Curtis Stone. When the officer attempted to open the vehicle door, Sherwood “gassed it” and took off, dragging the officer a short distance before he was able to get free, Stone said.

Sherwood then reportedly drove away.

The officer had some minor injuries, Stone said.
