DPS arrests suspected meth dealer

PARKER COUNTY — A man believed to be en route to deliver 7 grams of methamphetamine last week was arrested at a Hudson Oaks gas station.

Daniel Bryan Austin, 33, of Dallas, was arrested Oct. 11 and charged with possession of a controlled substance, more than 4 grams, less than 200 grams, with intent to deliver, a first degree felony.

Information from an ongoing DPS Criminal Investigation Division investigation led to the search of Austin’s vehicle Thursday night.

Sometime after 8:30 p.m. Thursday, DPS highway patrol troopers approached a white Chevrolet Malibu stopped at a convenience store at the corner of Lakeshore Drive and Interstate 20 and spoke with Austin, who seemed “overly nervous” and provided an “implausible travel story explaining his presence in Parker County,” according to the trooper’s probable cause affidavit.

The law enforcement officers were granted permission to search the vehicle and reported finding a glass pipe in the console and a zip-lock bag containing a clear crystal-like substance that tested positive for meth.

During a later interview, Austin reportedly later confessed to CID agents that he possessed the illegal substance and intended to deliver it to persons in Parker County.

Though initially arrested at the scene, a second person in the car is not expected to be charged.

Austin was released from the Parker County Jail Oct. 12 on $20,000 bond.
