Parkfest returns to Willow Park this weekend

WILLOW PARK — Parkfest has returned to Willow Park.

The annual event, which was canceled last year due to construction on Stagecoach Trail, celebrates the establishment of the city.

“It is a celebration of the city’s charter - it’s a birthday party for the city,” Kay Davis, Parkfest coordinator, said.

Parkfest will be held Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the corner of Ranch House Road and Stagecoach Trail.

Davis said this is the eighth year Parkfest has been celebrated in Willow Park and that it has grown each year to include residents from Tarrant, Wise and other surrounding counties.

“It is just a really good fun activity for our city and the surrounding area,” she said.

As usual, the event will include more than 40 arts and crafts vendors, bouncehouses and balloons for children and entertainment on two stages. The small stage will be located by the playground area where entertainment is set to include a magician and the Klassy Kloggers. The main stage will be located in front of Willow Park Fire Rescue on a flat bed trailer which can be pulled into the garage bay in the case of inclement weather.

“This year we have really beefed up the entertainment section,” Davis said.

Several bands will appear on the mainstage including Joe, Eric & Friends, Evenfold and Rocky Lott. The headliner is Texas country artist Ryan Turner who is best known for his song “She’s No Amy.”

Davis said Parkfest is also an opportunity for local non-profit agencies to explain their functions to the public.

“We don’t charge the non-profits,” she said. “They come to talk about what they do and it is an opportunity for them to receive donations.”

Willow Park Fire Rescue will provide concessions,

Parkfest is free to the public.

“Everyone is welcome - we are not going to keep anybody out,” Davis said.

The Air Force Academy recently graduated their first openly gay cadets. What does this signify?

Nothing. There have always been gay cadets, they just haven't been open.
A step backward. Sexual orientation issues shouldn't be a part of the military.
A step forward. The military needs to be open to people of all backgrounds.
No opinion.
