Wire theft for copper leaves church without water

An electrical wire theft left a southeast Parker County church without water over the weekend, according to a sheriff’s office report.

A representative of Wheatland Baptist Church contacted the sheriff’s office Wednesday evening to report the theft from the church, located in the 15900 block of State Highway 377, sometime during the prior week.

A woman cleaning the church Sunday night reported that the church had no running water. Tuesday, another church member went to the church and observed that approximately 30 feet of wiring between the well head and church building had been cut and removed.

The complainant estimated that the cost to replace the wiring was about $800.

The theft is believed to have occurred sometime between the Wednesday service on Feb. 27 and Sunday. The church pastor was out of town and no services were held Sunday, according to the congregant.

The Democrat was unable to reach the church representative Thursday afternoon.
