Suspected shoplifter captured after pursuit

By CHRISTIN COYNE

HUDSON OAKS – For the second time in a week, Hudson Oaks police say they captured suspected Walmart shoplifters at gunpoint after they fled police.

Officer Bradley Norman responded to the shopping center around 5:30 p.m. March 1 after receiving a call from the store loss-prevention employee, who reported he attempted to stop a man and woman for theft, according to the officer’s probable cause affidavit.

While the officer was en route, police were advised that the suspects fled the parking lot in a tan Kia SUV, striking three vehicles as it left.

The officer reportedly followed an SUV observed to be traveling at a high rate of speed and matching the description westbound on Interstate 20 to the Bankhead Highway exit.

Norman wrote that he saw the suspect vehicle cut across the grass at the intersection to avoid traffic and activated his lights and siren as they traveled northbound on Bankhead Highway.

The suspect vehicle then struck a vehicle at the intersection of Jennifer Court and turned southbound before stopping, according to the officer.

Norman wrote that he held both suspects at gunpoint until receiving backkup.

Unspecified property, valued at $47.21, was located in the vehicle and returned to the store, according to police.

The female suspect was issued a citation for theft of property and released.

Garrett Dillon Harris, 21, of Weatherford, was arrested and charged with third-degree felony evading arrest with a vehicle, theft of property with a previous conviction, and leaving the scene of an accident, court records show.
