The Doss Heritage and Culture Center is offering up one of its newest exhibits, titled Expressions from the Soul.
The display, available through Feb. 3, features 28 professional Texas artists who work with a variety of creative mediums, from oil paintings to bronze sculptures.
Expressions encompasses more than 100 unique pieces, some of which are available for purchase. Artists include Roger Bernard, Sheridan Keglovits, Carolyn Kilgo Weinman, Pamela Steege, Judy Mason Eldridge, John Yeatts Jr., John Yeatts Sr., Rosalie Kobetich, Jerry Shidal, Rebecca Glasgow, Martha Bennett, Susan Walker, Virginia Mayfield, Sheri Jones, Dale Martin, Vonnie Kohn, Cindy Ross, Kathy Cunning, Linda Whitehouse, Jo Cheatham, Alice Berkman, Colleen Erickson, Robin Ingle, Kelly Ingleright-Telgenhoff, Dee Elliott, Sandy DeHaan, Nancy Vee and Sharon McConnell.
Visitors can also enjoy seeing collection items in the Mary Martin and Larry Hagman Gallery. The gallery chronicles the life and accomplishments of stage and screen actress Mary Martin, who was born and raised in Weatherford, as well as her son, Larry Hagman. Hagman, who recently passed away, was perhaps most notable for his role as J.R. Ewing during the 1980s on the television series “Dallas,” a role he recently reprised.
One item incluted a shotgun donated by Hagman. The gun is a one-of-a-kind with inlaid images of Hagman’s co-stars from “Dallas” in the 1980s. Cliff Barnes’ image is on the butt of the gun.
Visitors can also take a trip back in time in the Heritage Gallery. The gallery houses a permanent interactive display. It illustrates early pioneer and American Indian life and the beginnings of Parker County; including information about settlers and trail drivers. Displays are appropriate for all ages and include hands-on exhibits, a full-sized teepee and chuck wagon.
