This is big, especially for a small town.

Peaster High School’s Lady ‘Hounds are headed to the state Class 2A volleyball championships in San Marcos.

They play Aubrey at 3 p.m. today in first-round action and classes have been cancelled so fans can make the trip.

“This is a small community and it’s a big deal,” said PISD Superintendent Matt Adams. “We called school off to give everybody a chance to go support the girls.”

Adams estimates between 500 and 1,000 fans will trek down Interstate 35 to root for Peaster.

“We had several hundred go to Abilene for the regionals last week,” he said.

He said fans have rallied around the volleyball team.

“The community does a great job,” he said. “We’re all so excited for the kids and the coaches.”

The Lady Greyhounds defeated Denver City in a five-game nail-biter Saturday, to earn a spot in this weekend’s state tournament.

Poth takes on undefeated White Oak in the other 2A semifinal Thursday.

A win by the Peaster squad today means a Saturday showdown with the winner of the other semifinal for the state title and probably another day off.

“We’ll probably be off Friday, too, if thyey win.” Adams said. “It would be awfully hard to drive five hours and go to school the next day.”

The Air Force Academy recently graduated their first openly gay cadets. What does this signify?

Nothing. There have always been gay cadets, they just haven't been open.
A step backward. Sexual orientation issues shouldn't be a part of the military.
A step forward. The military needs to be open to people of all backgrounds.
No opinion.
