For the 10th year in a row, the Parker County District Attorneys Office will light the Tree of Angels to honor victims of violent crimes and their families.

“The purpose to is bring focus and help families that have lost member or have been touched by violent crimes and to let them gather and know they’re not alone,” Terri Stout, victims’ assistance coordinator for the district attorney’s office said.

According to the Tree of Angels Web site, the event was started by an organzation called People Against Violent Crimes. The organization began the tradition of having a statewide ceremony to honor all victims by bringing an angel to be placed on a special Christmas tree in hope the blessings of the holiday season would comfort them in the warm spirit it represents.

Stout said this year’s tree will be in the lobby of the district court building.

“Each year we do it we have ornaments that people can get here and decorate but most people bring an ornament that reflects their loved one,” she said. “We add on each year and you can start seeing a pattern in the personality of who they are representing. It’s very touching.”

This year, Assistant U.S. Attorney Alex Lewis will be a guest speaker. Stout said Lewis is the lead attorney for all cyber crimes in the Fort Worth district.

The ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1, in the lobby of the district court building. For more information contact Terri Stout at 817-598-6127.
