Weatherford police responded to several accidents during the snowy weather Wednesday morning, but Cpl. Wendy Field said it was a below average day taking the weather into consideration.
The only major accident worked by officers Wednesday morning as the first snow of the season fell was a two-car accident on Azle Highway where a driver attempted to make a U-turn and pulled out in front of an oncoming vehicle. No injuries were reported.
Field reminded drivers to take into consideration the changing weather conditions when driving.
“Leave earlier than usual and give yourself plenty of time to reach your destination,” Field wrote in a release. “Rather than following at the normal two car lengths behind the vehicle in front of you, give yourself extra room.”
She also suggested keeping a cell phone on hand and charged at all times and have vehicle equipment check regularly such as tires, antifreeze, windshield wipers and headlights. Also, allow the vehicle to warm up and windows to defrost prior to driving. And, as always, wear a seatbelt.
“Watch the traffic around you,” she wrote. “You may see them but they may not see you. And ideally, if you don’t have to get out, stay at home.”
