Saturday’s Christmas on the Square in downtown Weatherford will feature numerous performances by local singers and dancers.
Among the array are the Klassy Kloggers and Breckenridge Hot Footers starting off the day at 3:45 p.m. on the southwest quadrant stage. Instructor Shirley Anderson will perform with her group of clog dancers ranging in age from 10 to 79.
“We draw a big crowd,” Anderson said. “Our high energy dance and music always attracts people. They are just amazed that our feet can move that fast, and that we can dance nine songs in a row without stopping.”
The cloggers will be followed by the Curtis Elementary Choir at 4:30 p.m., Simple Gifts at 5:15 p.m. and the Trinity Christian Academy Choir at 5:45 p.m.
Sharon Klahm, choir director for Trinity Christian Academy, said students grade six through eight will perform a medley of spiritual and secular holiday songs from the Hallelujah Chorus to Here Comes Santa Claus. This is the choir’s second year to perform at Christmas on the Square.
“They loved it [last year],” Klahm said. “It really bring the Christmas spirit to everybody. Our main goal is to share the spirit of Christmas, which is Christ’s birth, even though we are singing some secular music for the fun of Christmas. They should all come and get into that spirit with us.”
Following the choral performance, dancers from The Rock go on stage at 6:30 p.m. Dancers ages three to 18 will perform tap, hip-hop and lyrical.
The Rock owner Tina Inovich said parents love coming out to watch their little ones perform and said everyone should come watch even if they don’t have a child or grandchild in the performance.
“It’ll help put them in the Christmas spirit,” Inovich said. “That’s what Christmas is about, the kids and their smiles and seeing them get out there and make the accomplishment of performing in front of everyone. Everyone pays a lot of money to go see the Rockettes do their Christmas performance - this is free.”
Performances by Evone Scott at 7:15 p.m. and The Texas Wildflower Cloggers at 7:30 p.m. wrap up the event.
At the same time, a stage on the northeast quadrant of the square will feature several more performances including ECHO at 4:30 p.m., a repeat performance by The Rock dancers at 5:30 p.m., David Koening at 6:15 p.m. and Katelyn and Coby Boon at 7:30 p.m.
The 4 p.m. performance by Heritage Covenant has been moved to the parking lot of the South Main Church of Christ. Heritage Covenant Pastor Patrick Hurd said the time conflicted with many of the youth’s schedule and they wanted to open up a space for a street dance. They partnered with the Church of Christ and will offer a place to come waltz and two-step during the entire evening of Christmas on the Square.
“It will be a combination of just playing music along with some organized, called ballroom dancing,” Hurd said. “They whole purpose is to attract people in off the street to come dance.”
The church hosts a dance monthly at the Harberger Hill Community Center. Hurd said their church philosophy is to be involved with the community and to held build the community.
“This is a way we feel that we can demonstrate how young people can have fun and it be productive and good fun with their siblings and family and others in the community,” he said. “That’s why we do the dances, and we want to show that off a bit to the larger community.”

Sheriff, judge at odds over mailer
Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler sent out a statement and automatic phone calls across the county Wednesday saying he did not endorse incumbent 43rd District Judge candidate Trey Loftin, following a mailer sent by the judge’s campaign that included a quote from Fowler.
