It will be the second year for the Western Swing Concert at The Church in Peaster, but a first for the performance to raise money for the Parker County Senior Center.
Josh Rodgers, associate pastor and worship leader, said 100 percent of the donations will go toward the center, specifically to its Meals-on-Wheels and prescription medicine assistance programs.
“I decided on the Senior Center after praying about it,” Rodgers said. “I felt that’s where it led me and where I can make a difference locally.”
The performance will feature local and national talent performing “western swing-style sacred Christmas carols.” Rodgers, who also plays in bands outside the church, enlisted the help of band members he has met over the years.
“There are some heaving-hitting guys,” he said. “Many have won Grammys and played with artists like Willie Nelson, Asleep at the Wheel, George Strait, Reba McEntire ... and the list goes on.”
Even though the show is free, donations of any size are encouraged and Rogers strongly recommends people call the church office to reserve seating.
“Last year we had one performance that had about 700 people attend,” he said. “This year we’ll have three shows, and we’re anticipating full crowds at each one.”
The three performances will be held Sunday Dec. 20, at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the church located at 8601 FM 920.
