WEATHERFORD - Parker County Sheriff’s Deputy Aaron Preston has been dispatched to hundreds of calls and has seen just about everything one could imagine. Yet, when he responded to a burglary call Tuesday evening, he was shocked.
He said unknown suspect(s) entered the residence they recently moved into and stole every present under the tree.
Homeowner Renee’ Hair had been at a local hospital and was bringing her sister, Debbie Hill, 23, home after a Dec. 16, car wreck left her in intensive care for several days.
Hill was traveling on North 51 when Hair said she fell asleep at the wheel and landed in a creek, overturned.
“We think she laid there for about six hours,” Hair said. From what the family can tell, Hill laid conscious in the ditch, unable to move from 4 a.m. until a Sheriff’s deputy discovered her around 11 a.m.
Accident reports stated Hill was half-submerged in water, trapped in the vehicle and unable to dial 9-1-1.
Hair said Debbie has bleeding from her brain and may not fully recover.
“She can’t walk or use her left arm,” Hair said of two additional injuries. “She has a traumatic brain injury and can’t carry on a conversation. The doctors said there may be hope with time. But the last thing I wanted her to see when we got home was everything stolen. I hated for her to see that.”
Hair and her boyfriend have six children ranging from ages 6 months to 16 years. Tritan, 5, came to her and asked, “Is the bad man going to bring our presents back?”
She said she was shocked that the presents were wrapped in Transformers wrapping paper and the burglars stole every last gift.
“I tried to put them on the Angel Tree,” she said, but was told the program was over. “I couldn’t believe someone would come in and take presents belonging to children. This is so awful. I had to take a week off of work to care for my sister, so we just don’t have any more money for Christmas.”
Hair said the suspects took more the $1,800 in gifts, along with a laptop computer from the master bedroom and an Xbox in the living area. The gifts stolen by the suspects included a Transformers comforter and sheet set, Bath and Body Works gift set, video game, a train track set, Aeropostale pajamas, clothes, two Transformers crash cars, a toy monkey for the baby, a Monsters vs. Aliens DVD, toy helicopter, big yellow truck, Winnie the Pooh talking phone, baby ball, Push ‘n Spin, Power Rangers action figures and motorcycle, Tech Deck skateboards, small bicycle, coloring books, airplanes, Scooby Doo DVD and miscellaneous cars.
“We walked in and I just cried,” she said.
Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said, “The family can rest assured, we are doing everything within our power to locate and apprehend the suspects responsible for stealing Christmas from these children.”

Sheriff, judge at odds over mailer
Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler sent out a statement and automatic phone calls across the county Wednesday saying he did not endorse incumbent 43rd District Judge candidate Trey Loftin, following a mailer sent by the judge’s campaign that included a quote from Fowler.
However, Loftin said Thursday Fowler made the referenced statement to a room full of people at a fundraiser for Loftin and agreed to let Loftin’s campaign quote the sheriff. - Film director looking for local actors
