As the city prepares to ring in the New Year, Weatherford Police Department will be out full-force patrolling the streets for drunk drivers this evening.
“We’re going to have extra patrol officers out for the normal expectations that come with the New Year,” Corporal Wendy Field said. “We’ll be looking for DWIs, DUIs, and other alcohol related offenses.”
Field said top priority for people should be to designate a driver if they plan on drinking.
“If you don’t have any plans, it would be best to stay at home and celebrate with friends and family,” she added.
Luckily, Field said even though forecasts for New Year’s Eve are clear and weather should not be a problem, drivers should still be cautious.
“There will be an increased number of people out driving that night,” she said.
Other recent crimes in the area like spray painting or burglaries will also be under close watch.
“If you or your neighbors notice anything suspicious, or if there are parties causing loud disruptions, don’t hesitate to call the police department and we can address the issue,” Field added.
