Icy roads cause county closings

Staff Report

Thursday morning’s frigid commute was a little dicey due to some slick roads.

But traffic was lighter on Parker County thoroghfares because school buses were not out.

A thin layer of ice, which came with the anticipated cold front, triggered a winter weather advisory, as well as the cancellation or delay of most classes at county schools.

Public school tudents in Weatherford, Aledo, Springtown, Brock, Peaster, Poolville and Azle all get an unexpected day off Thursday . Garner ISD students are to report at 10 a.m.

In addition, Trinity Christian Academy, Victory Baptist Academy, Aledo Christian School and Aledo Country Day Academy were all shuttered Thursday.

Weatherford College was also shut down due to dangerous road conditions, as were City of Weatherford and Parker County offices.

The deep freeze is expected to last through Saturday afternoon. The mercury will climb only to the upper 20s today, but 20-30 mph winds will keep wind chill factors between 10 and 15 degrees most of the day.

The Air Force Academy recently graduated their first openly gay cadets. What does this signify?

Nothing. There have always been gay cadets, they just haven't been open.
A step backward. Sexual orientation issues shouldn't be a part of the military.
A step forward. The military needs to be open to people of all backgrounds.
No opinion.
