A 70-year-old Springtown-area landowner was arrested Saturday after, authorities say, he discharged a gun while arguing with a man.
Virgil Lee Bias was arrested on a third-degree felony charge of deadly conduct for reportedly shooting into the ground about a foot away from a 43-year-old complainant, according to the Parker County Sheriff’s Office.
The complainant reportedly told deputies responding to the 8600 block of Old Springtown Road around 10 a.m. that he had an agreement with Bias to park his trailer on Bias’ property and Bias believed he was not moving it fast enough, the sheriff’s office reported.
Bias became angry and was yelling, the complainant said, according to the sheriff’s office.
During the argument, Bias went to the house and returned with a revolver which he discharged once into the air and once into the ground approximately a foot from where the 43-year-old man was standing, Deputy Danie Huffman said.
Deputies observed a hole in the ground and found empty .38-caliber casings, according to the report.
Bias told deputies that he just wanted to scare the complainant into moving his trailer faster, the sheriff’s office reported.
Arrested on a charge of deadly conduct-discharging a firearm, Bias was released Sunday from the Parker County Jail on $10,000 bond. The Democrat was unable to reach him for comment.
High-speed pursuit
A high-speed motorcycle pursuit late Sunday ended when the suspect stopped and was taken into custody, the Parker County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The pursuit began when a deputy attempted to stop a motorcycle rider in the 3000 block of U.S. Highway 199 near Springtown around 11:45 p.m. to notify him of a license plate that was not lighted, Deputy Danie Huffman said.
The motorcycle traveled westbound on the highway and turned northbound on Rhoades Lane, according to the sheriff’s office. At one point speeds reportedly reached between 100 mph and 105 mph.
The pursuit ended when the the suspect reportedly made a right turn, stopped and was arrested.
Skylor Chase Cashion, 19, of Springtown, was charged with evading arrest or detention with a vehicle.
Cashion reportedly told deputies he fled because he was afraid of police, the sheriff’s office reported.
