A Parker County man who says he lives in the greatest part of the greatest state in the Union is applying for a job that would require his relocation to Washington, D.C.
Mike Brasovan of Annetta North, is challenging Congresswoman Kay Granger for the Republican nomination for District 12 Representative.
In town recently as part of a campaign swing through the area, Brasovan declared he is the conservative choice in the March 2 primary election.
Citing a lack of leadership within the GOP as a prime reason Democrats currently control Congress, Brasovan said he is intent on defeating incumbent Granger for the Republican slot in November’s election.
“We’ve been out knocking on doors, looking for people to talk to,” Brasovan said. “I want to get my message out. That we, as part of the greatest state in the greatest nation in the world need to lead the way.”
The Parker County resident is hoping to strike a chord as he campaigns to stifle government growth.
“We need to identify actual functions of the federal government and streamline them. That’s the only way we’ll be able to shrink the government to a reasonable size at a reasonable cost.”
Brasovan, an energy contract consultant, lives in Annetta North with his wife and two children.
“I’m running because I couldn’t find anyone else to do this,” he said. “It’s not for the money or the perks. I want my children to have the same chances to succeed as I’ve had.”
Among his priorities, if elected, are securing the future for Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.
“Those programs are putting out more money than they are taking in,” he said. “We need to develop a plan to be independent of those programs.”
Brasovan is looking to unseat Granger, who began her political career as Mayor of Fort Worth in 1989. In November 1996, Granger became the first Republican and the first woman ever elected to represent Texas Congressional District 12.
The district encompasses western Tarrant, Parker and Wise Counties.
Campaign literature for Brasovan also cites abortion, gun concerns, healthcare and immigration, as other major campaign issues.
Brasovan, a delegate to the 2006 and 2008 state Republican conventions, as well as an alternate to the national convention in 2008, is scheduled to address Weatherford’s Bush Legacy Republilcan Women Thursday.
The Republican primary is March 2.
Early voting begins Feb. 16.
