After a minor extrication from his vehicle, a man was flown by Air Evac from the scene of a two vehicle wreck around 11:30 a.m. on Interstate 20 near the Millsap exit.
The wreck occurred in the single eastbound lane on a bridge in the construction zone.
It appeared a car failed to react in time to slowing or stopped traffic and ran into the back of an 18-wheeler, Millsap Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Jeff Edwards said.
A portion of the car slid under the truck, shearing much of the roof off at shoulder level, according to Edwards.
Air Evac landed on the highway and the man was reportedly transported to a Fort Worth hospital.
DPS, Brock-Dennis VFD and Greenwood VFD, who helped shut down the Interstate for about two hours, also responded.
Millsap and surrounding VFDs have been responding nearly every day to major wrecks in the single lane construction zone in West Parker County.
Since the construction began in the area in May, Millsap VFD has responded to five fatalities, according to Edwards.
“It’s basically people just not paying attention” in areas where the highway goes down to one lane, Edwards said.
Last week, an older couple on their way to a funeral were involved in a rear-end wreck, Edwards said.
“Slow down and watch the distance between the vehicle in front of you,” Edwards urged drivers. “I’d like to spend Christmas at home.”
