WEATHERFORD —
Christmas on the Square is little more than two weeks away but Chamber of Commerce officials are getting ready for the popular event.
The annual festivities are scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 1 from noon to 5 p.m. on the Weatherford downtown square. The city’s annual Christmas parade is scheduled for 10 a.m. that morning, starting at the Ninth Grade Center and heading north on Main Street before traveling around the square and courthouse then heading west on Palo Pinto and passing Cherry Park.
Event Coordinator Taylor Hall said vendors wishing to take part have to submit their application form. Monday morning, spots will be assigned to the individual vendors and information will be sent to them on their position along with additional information.
Much of the enjoyment of the event comes from the local entertainment provided. An official schedule has not been provided yet but Hall says it will consist of several groups from dance studios which is always very popular.
“Everything will be local as far as the entertainment,” Hall said. “The local groups of kids performing is what brings the parents and grandparents out which is great.”
With Christmas being all about the joy and innocence of children, several organizations will have areas set up for youngsters including First Financial Bank, which will have their lobby open for free photos with Santa. Also planned with kids in mind: hot chocolate and the three C’s (cupcakes, cookies and candy canes) will be seen on every corner with businesses and other organizations passing out delicious goodies.
• An ice sculptor will be transforming blocks of ice into beautiful, holiday themed works of art
• Free horse–drawn carriage rides sponsored by Parker County Physical Therapy
• Pony rides and mini-train rides for kids
• Inflatable bounce house
• Face painters and balloon artists
• Roaming holiday characters (Grinch, Frosty the Snowman, Chris-Moose, Penguin, etc.)
• Lots of free kids’ activities and fun for the whole family
For those who are young at heart, Parker County Cruisers will be having a car show displaying a number of members’ classic cars. Food booths, craft booths, gift ideas from local merchants (many offering special sales strictly for the event), and so much more will make for a funfilled afternoon. Many of the businesses are expected to stay open into the evening to encourage holiday shopping.
Admission and parking are free for the event. For more information, contact the Weatherford Chamber at 817–596-3801 or visit www.weatherford-chamber.com.
