Staff member of the year named at Weatherford College

College employees honored for service

“The best man won” at the recent annual Weatherford College service awards dinner.

Joshua Sterling, the only male among the eight nominees, was named WC 2012 Staff Member of the Year – for the second time.

First honored in 2001, Sterling is only the second repeat winner since the award’s launch in 1991.

The award, determined by a vote by college staff, recognizes the one employee whose outstanding contributions to the College are considered above and beyond regular job responsibilities and whose work exemplifies a high standard of excellence.

Sterling, network administrator in the Information Technology Department, assists in the installation, troubleshooting and repair of the college’s computer systems. His technical expertise, tireless effort and willingness to work overtime to get the job done, always with a pleasant demeanor and wry sense of humor, made Sterling a standout in the eyes of his colleagues.

2011 Staff Member of the Year Lisa Coody introduced Sterling. In remarks made in her presentation to Sterling, Coody lauded his accomplishments and praised his technical abilities, as well as his attitude.

With the honor go a plaque, a $1,000 cash award and roundtrip airfare for two up to $800 to Sterling’s choice of destinations, provided by the WC Foundation.

Other nominees for the Staff Member of the Year were Beth Brock; Becki Byrd; Theresa Hutchinson; Sheila Kinkead; Kay Landrum; Terri Thompson and Keri Waller. Each earlier had been selected as Staff Member of the (fall or spring) Semester.

In addition to Sterling’s award, other college employees were honored for their milestone years of service.
