Cement truck turnover

WEATHERFORD —

The driver of a concrete truck was transported to the hospital early Monday afternoon for non-life-threatening injuries after his truck overturned on Bethel Road.

The one-vehicle wreck, which led to the closure of portion of the road into the evening hours, occurred just south of Horseshoe Bend Road, around 1:15 p.m..

The driver was transported to a Fort Worth hospital by LifeCare with minor head injuries, according to ESD No. 6 firefighters, who responded along with the Weatherford Fire Department.

Emergency personnel spent about four and a half hours at the scene, as two large wreckers helped upright the truck and cement, which weighed multiple tons.

The truck removal process wasn’t easy as it was carrying a full 9-yard load and presented a risk of tipping over on the other side if not done correctly, ESD No. 6 Chief Geoge Teague said.

The southbound truck was one of several on the way to pour concrete at a project down the road.

The truck is believed to have blown a rear tire before going off one side of the road and then traveling off the other side before turning over on its side, according to firefighters at the scene.

The driver of the truck was traveling too fast, went off the roadway and overturned, Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Lonny Haschel said.

Additional information, including the driver’s name, was not available by deadline.
