Parks and Rec board to review latest proposed changes to user deal with WLL

A user agreement between the City of Weatherford and the Weatherford Little League will again be reviewed by the city’s Parks and Recreation Board at tonight’s meeting.

Some changes to the agreement, both in terms and financial information from the league, have been provided since being approved by the board Nov. 29. The agreement, which is the first of its kind between the two parties, concerns the seven baseball and softball fields at Soldier Spring Park.

Because of the new information, council members asked the board at their Jan. 8 meeting to take another look at the user agreement before final approval by the council.

Parks board members have been critical of the league for what they consider is the league not holding up its end of the agreement. City officials have been waiting for several weeks for updated financial information, which the league has had difficulty finding.

League President Nancy Coker worked with the league’s accountant and brought updated financial information to the Jan. 8 council meeting.

The original agreement, which was approved by the council in January 2012, was for one year to give both parties a chance to work with it and come back and make changes. The original agreement expired Dec. 31. The revised agreement, once approved, is for three years.

The revised agreement reportedly has clearer breakdowns of what each entity is responsible for. An increase in user fees for both residents and non-residents is also being considered.

During the last council meeting, both the league and board appeared ready to hammer out the terms of the agreement and submit it to the council for final approval.

Other items on tonight’s agenda include:

• Receiving a report on the first ever Texas Department of Agriculture inspection of the Parks and Recreation Department.

• Consider getting the City of Weatherford Recognized Yard Program started again.

• Setting a date and activity for the dedication of a state historical marker at Chandor Gardens.

• Discussion of activity needed for Arbor Day and Keep Weatherford Beautiful accreditations.

The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the city council chambers, located at city hall, 303 Palo Pinto St.
