Citizen Police Academy group to host raffle, casino night

Event set for Feb. 16 at Senior Center

Feb. 16 is the date for the 12th Annual Raffle Night with Casino Games fundraiser for the Weatherford Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association.

This event is held each February at the Senior Center in Weatherford.

Each year the event offers blackjack, craps, roulette, bingo, Texas Hold ’Em and prize wheels, not to mention great raffle items and food.

The economy may be tough, but numerous business people have stepped up to make this year’s event possible by sponsoring tables, donating items and money to make the event enjoyable by everyone.

Corporate sponsors are Grogan Family Foundation, Weatherford Telegram, Sargent’s Wrecker Service and Jerry Durant Auto Group.

This year’s event will have many raffle items to choose from including Dallas Mavericks tickets, a 50-inch television, an overnight stay at Horseshoe Casino, and many other items. Funds from this annual event are used according to the non-profit by-laws of the group, which is in a manner to support the Weatherford Police Department.

In 2001, the first casino night was hosted by the WCPAAA, who paid someone else to come and bring their equipment and dealers. From that event forward the WCPAAA has purchased its own equipment and provides dealers from the local community.

Attendees can expect to have fun and be well entertained. Knowledge of gaming is not required. The dealers will take the time to teach you how to play the games. There will be several levels of dealers from the most basic to the most advanced. Name your game and they will do the rest.

Tickets for the annual event are $10 per person and include $10,000 in play money, as well as a raffle ticket and drink. Advance tickets and old cell phones earn extra raffle tickets. You must be at least age 18 to attend.

This event has proven to be a night of fun and entertainment and all for a good cause.
