Clickers still available for Tuesday’s downtown citizens’ input meeting

Spots are still available for the town hall-style meeting on the Weatherford downtown area scheduled for Tuesday night.

As of Friday morning, 71 handheld electronic voting “clickers” had been reserved for the meeting, according to Kandi Lee with Weatherford’s planning and development department.

Anyone wishing to express their opinion on ideas for the downtown is urged to contact Lee at 817-598-4211 or klee@weatherfordtx.gov before Tuesday to reserve a clicker.

Director of Planning and Development Craig Farmer said between 80 and 100 people are expected but 200 clickers can be handled by the system. Not every item needs to be voted on either, Farmer said.

“If someone simply wants to express their opinion on one or two specific items, we’ll be glad to have it,” Farmer said. “This is a very informal type of setting and we really want the public’s input.”

The meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Cotten-Bratton Building, located at 113 College Ave. on the square, will gauge public perception on several ideas the city’s Historic Preservation Committee, the newly formed Downtown Weatherford subcommittee, planning and Main Street officials have on the downtown.

Visual items will be shown on a large screen and the results will be instantaneous via the electronic system that allows everyone to have a say and still remain anonymous. A facilitator, who has worked with downtown programs across the state, including both Dallas and Fredericksburg, will lead the meeting and help get ideas flowing, Farmer said.

“Your vote doesn’t lock any thing into concrete, but it will give a pretty good idea as to what we need to consider,” Farmer said.
