City’s Main Street Program again earns national recognition

The Texas Historical Commission and the National Trust for Historic Preservation recently announced that the City of Weatherford has received national recognition as a Main Street Community for the third consecutive year.

Cities selected as National Main Street communities must show above average performance in 10 categories focusing on planning, staff and volunteers, preservation ethic, training and individual program assessment. The National Trust for Historic Preservation’s National Main Street Center will honor these cities at the 2013 National Main Streets Conference to be held in New Orleans, La., in April.

“This recognition honors many people, especially Weatherford Main Street Manager Kim Thieme, volunteers and the downtown merchants and businesses, who all work tirelessly to make the program successful,” said Parks, Recreation and Special Events Director Danielle Felts. “The ultimate result of the Main Street Program is a revitalized downtown full of life that is successful for the benefit of the entire community – that is a very exciting direction to continue to be headed in.

“As a fifth generation resident of Weatherford, there is nothing more important to me than continuing to grow, all while maintaining the utmost respect for our past; communities all over the Metroplex try to recreate what we are so fortunate to already have.”

“It is thrilling that we have achieved national recognition all three years being a designated Main Street Community,” Thieme said. “We continue to work in a positive direction for the downtown and the community as a whole and pride ourselves on sustained partnerships and future collaborations that truly make this program flourish.”
