Charged with murder, a 33-year-old Parker County woman was arrested after, authorities say, she called 911 around 10:30 p.m. Friday and reported that she shot her boyfriend.
Responding deputies found the woman, Roni Catherine Lisenbe, sitting on the front porch of her residence in the 3500 block of West Highway 199 near Springtown and 38-year-old Richard Graves on the bedroom floor, according to officials.
Graves was transported to Harris Methodist Hospital in Azle, where he was pronounced dead around 11:30 p.m.
Lisenbe was immediately taken into custody by deputies and later booked into the Parker County Jail where bond on the murder charge was set at $100,000, according to jail records.
Lisenbe told investigators that a domestic dispute led to a physical altercation when Lisenbe retrieved a Glock 23 handgun and shot Graves in the abdomen, according to the sheriff’s office.
A ruling on the cause of death was pending from the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office Saturday afternoon.
A relative reported Graves had an infant son, though it was not clear if he was with him at the time.
Graves had recently worked at a fast-food restaurant in Springtown, the Democrat confirmed.
Amy Sands, Lisenbe’s manager at a hair salon where Lisenbe has worked for the past three years, told the Democrat that Lisenbe previously told coworkers that she feared Graves and that he had assaulted her.
The two had been in a relationship for about two months and Graves had recently been staying with Lisenbe, according to Sands.
“She had made a couple of comments to us that she was afraid,” Sands said.
Sands said Lisenbe also told coworkers earlier during the week that she was on a phone with an ex-boyfriend who lived in another part of the state when Graves attacked her and choked her. They were told the the ex-boyfriend heard Graves yelling over the phone and ended up calling 911, she said.
Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Danie Huffman said their records don’t show any recent domestic violence complaints at the residence.
Lisenbe told them she’d given Graves until the first of April to be gone, Sands said.
Her coworkers aren’t sure what happened Friday night.
“The only thing that we were told is that he came home and she ended up shooting him,” Sands said.
Sands said she believes Lisenbe wouldn’t have done something like that unless she felt her life was in danger.
