Springtown man in wreck dies

Christin Coyne

Authorities say a 30-year-old man died Sunday around 1 p.m. after he lost control of the motorcycle he was riding in Springtown.

Matthes Sherwood, 30, a Springtown resident, was pronounced dead at the hospital emergency room in Azle and his death ruled an accident, according the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Sherwood was traveling in the 400 block of South Pojo Drive Sunday when his motorcycle hit the curb, throwing him into a sign post, according Springtown Police Chief Ed Crowdis.

Sherwood was not wearing a helmet, Crowdis said.

“As near as we can tell, the gentleman lost attention or was distracted,” Crowdis said.

Witnesses told police that Sherwood, who was traveling in a 40 mph zone, was not speeding, Crowdis said, adding that they’ve found no evidence of illegal or impairing substances.

Sherwood was traveling with his father, who was riding ahead of him at the time, according to police.
