Child reports finding K2 on school grounds

Same child tells investigators of father’s K2 use in the home

By CHRISTIN COYNE

Authorities say a 7-year-old Crockett Elementary student brought a package of suspected K2 to her teacher Friday and stated she found it on the playground.

Several children were on the playground when a student found what resembled a package of candy, according to Derik Moore, Weatherford ISD spokesman, who added that the child apparently knew something was not right and contacted a teacher, who alerted administrators.

Weatherford police were contacted and the district is cooperating in an investigation, Moore said.

There was no discipline involved in the case, according to Moore.

Moore declined to comment on whether any children possibly ingested what was in the package.

“We’re just glad that swift actions were taken and all is well,” Moore said.

Court records indicate the girl, along with a younger sister, were removed from their father by Child Protective Services that same day.

CPS also received a complaint earlier in the day with allegations that the children were present during physical altercations involving their father, according to court records.

Later that afternoon, they received information involving the incident at school.

The 7-year-old reportedly told authorities that she found the yellow package on the playground.

The school resource officer told CPS that the child swore she found it on the playground but said her father has it at home, too.

She said her father liked the kind with a pirate on the front of the package, and described how he rolled it and smoked it and where in her home it could be found, according to CPS.
